AKRONFour robberiesAKRON: Four Akron businesses were robbed at gunpoint during the past weekend, police said.The first robbery happened about 8 p.m. Friday at the Dollar General store, 1770 Merriman Road, where two gunmen demanded money from two cash registers.At 4 a.m. Sunday, a gunman robbed workers at the Penn Station restaurant, 270 E. Exchange St. Police believe the same gunman might have held up the Circle K, 650 E. Market St., for cash and cigarettes during a robbery an hour later.The gunman is described as a black male in his 30s, standing more than 6 feet 4 inches, with a goatee. The suspect wore a black coat, black hooded sweatshirt, brown pants and brown shoes.The fourth heist occurred about 4:30 Monday morning at Speedway, 2129 S. Main St. Workers told police a gunman approached a clerk and demanded cash.Police describe that gunman as a white male between 25 and 35 years old and standing nearly 6 feet tall. He wore a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a gray knit stocking hat.Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to call Akron police at 330-375-2490. Frey, 35, was being held in the Portage County Justice Center under a $50,000 bond. Frey is charged with aggravated vehicular assault and a felony charge of hit-skip.Mount Union wide receiver Clayton Hull was driving home early Sunday when his SUV was hit by a minivan and rolled over on state Route 14 in Ravenna Township. He was ejected from his vehicle.The other driver fled the scene, authorities said.Hull suffered a neck injury and is listed in satisfactory condition at Summa Akron City Hospital. Hull is expected to recover from his injuries.Frey’s arrest was announced by authorities on Monday. Frey appeared in Portage County Municipal Court and has a second hearing scheduled for Friday.SUMMIT COUNTYNew ADM managerAKRON: John M. Ellis has joined Summit County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services as the manager of clinical services.For the past 10 years, he has served as the director for programs and services for the Alcohol and Drug Addictions Board of Lorain County. He also is an adjunct faculty member at the Cleveland State University School of Social Work and serves as chair of the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board.Ellis has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s in social work, both from Cleveland State. He is licensed as an independent social worker supervisor and as an independent chemical dependency counselor.“I have long admired the innovation and dedication of the Summit County ADM Board and the spirit of recovery found within the community,” Ellis said in a prepared statement. “I feel very fortunate to have an opportunity to help shape their future direction.”Stark CountyDiocese promotionCANTON: The Rev. Robert Kaylor has been appointed president of Central Catholic High School by Bishop George V. Murry of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown.As president, Kaylor will serve as the chief executive officer of the school and is charged with control of its budget, personnel, educational and development programs, recruitment, business affairs and facilities.Kaylor, who was ordained in 1970, has served as associate pastor at St. Michael Parish in Plain Township, on the faculty at Central Catholic, as administrator at St. Paul Parish in Canton and most recently as pastor of St. Therese Parish in Brewster.He has also served as chaplain of the Catholic Young Adult Club of Stark County and chaplain, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the diocesan priests’ personnel board.
